Spotlight on sport in Monaco at the UN
To celebrate the third International Day of Sport for Development and Peace, the Monaco Crossroad for Sports photo exhibition was opened on Thursday 31 March by H.E. Ms Isabelle Picco, Monaco’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, and Mr Edmond Mulet, the Secretary-General’s Chef de Cabinet.
Representatives from member states, UN officials and visitors will be able to admire 18 images, all symbolising the tradition of sport in the Principality, which will be exhibited at the UN Headquarters in New York until 8 April 2016.
Sport for all, as a hobby and at school, as well as charity sports events which feature alongside several prestigious competitions, are all an integral part of the sporting crossroads that the Principality represents.
Monaco’s Permanent Representative also highlighted the action taken by the Princess Charlene Foundation, Monaco Disease Power, No Finish Line, and Peace and Sport, which are all represented in the exhibition.
During the opening, guests took part in the #whitecard viral communications campaign, in which more than 7 million Internet users have already got involved.
In his speech, Mr Mulet recognised the commitment of H.S.H. Prince Albert II and Monaco’s efforts to promote the contribution of sport to achieving the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.
