Monaco Hosts the 3rd High-Level Meeting of the Small Countries Initiative of WHO Europe
On Tuesday 11 October 2016, Government Ministers Gilles Tonelli and Stéphane Valeri, in the presence of Dr. Zsuzsanna Jakab, Regional Director of the WHO, opened the 3rd High-Level Meeting of the Small Countries Initiative of WHO Europe.
The theme for this meeting is "Health and Sustainable Development: the Advantages of the Small Countries." The meeting, which continues until 12 October, is an opportunity to bring together delegations led by the Health Ministers of the eight small States of Europe* that are members of the WHO. Together, they will discuss the means required to implement the health-related sustainable development goals, as part of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
The initiative was established by the WHO so that member States of the European Region with fewer than a million inhabitants could have regular discussions on issues they have in common and share their experience, with a view to improving the life of populations, in line with the WHO's "Health 2020" programme.
*Andorra, Cyprus, Iceland, Luxembourg, Malta, Monaco, Montenegro and San Marino.
