Embassy of Monaco in France New Year address to diplomatic corps accredited to Monaco
The traditional New Year address for representatives of the diplomatic corps accredited to the Principality of Monaco was given on Thursday 18 January 2018 at the Shangri-La Hotel in Paris.
Mr Gilles Tonelli, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, and H.E. Mr Claude Cottalorda, Monaco’s Ambassador to France, welcomed almost 80 ambassadors and representatives of embassies accredited to the Principality.
Before presenting his best wishes for health, happiness and prosperity in 2018, the Minister expressed the Principality’s support for countries affected by acts of terror. He stressed that Monaco would continue to be an advocate for peace within international bodies and push to ensure that commitments made on environmental, humanitarian, health and education issues are kept and strengthened.
Mr Tonelli then read a message from H.S.H. the Sovereign Prince who expressed his wish that in 2018, political and economic leaders would strive to build a fairer and more sustainable world, working to ensure sustainable development with a focus on the “green” economy. After giving an overview of current issues for Monaco, including the importance of its negotiations with the European Union and the soon-to-be-held national elections, H.S.H. the Sovereign Prince shared his best wishes for the New Year in Monegasque.
As of today, Monaco has diplomatic relations with 135 countries throughout the world and 114 ambassadors are accredited to the Principality.
