Diplomacy: accreditation of new ambassadors from Cambodia – United Arab Emirates – Germany – Sweden

On Thursday 11 February, at a lunch held at the Hotel Hermitage, Isabelle Rosabrunetto, the Director General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, received H.E. Mr Sophann Ket, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Kingdom of Cambodia; H.E. Mr Ali Abdulla Alahmed, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the United Arab Emirates;H.E. Mr Hans-Dieter Lucas, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Federal Republic of Germany, and H.E. Mr Håkan Åkesson, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Sweden.

The diplomats presented their credentials to H.S.H. the Sovereign Prince during the morning.

H.E. Mr Sophann Ket began his career at the Cambodian Department of International Affairs in 2000. He was appointed Assistant to the Prime Minister in 2004, then in 2009 joined Cambodia’s Permanent Delegation to UNESCO in Paris with the rank of Minister Plenipotentiary. He was promoted to the post of Ambassador and Permanent Delegate in 2014, then became Under-Secretary of State for European Affairs and UNESCO in 2018.

H.E. Mr Ali Abdulla Alahmed worked in telecommunications and media as Head of Planning and Strategy for Emirates Telecommunications Corporation then as Director of Abu Dhabi TV, before embarking on his diplomatic career as Director of European Affairs at the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation. He was appointed as Ambassador and the Permanent Delegate of the United Arab Emirates to UNESCO in 2020.

A career diplomat, H.E. Mr Hans-Dieter Lucas joined the German Federal Foreign Office in 1985, and served in a number of roles, including as Deputy Director General for Eastern Europe, the Caucasus and Central Asia, and as Political Director. As an ambassador, he has represented his country on the European Union Political and Security Committee in Brussels and at NATO.

Having joined the Swedish Foreign Ministry in 1996, H.E. Mr Håkan Åkesson then served in a number of posts, including as Deputy Director General, Ambassador, Head of Management and Methods in Development Cooperation, Head of Disarmament and Non-Proliferation and Director General of Administrative Affairs. During his career, he has represented his country as the Swedish Ambassador to Ethiopia, Sudan, Djibouti and Turkey.
