The New National Museum of Monaco and the Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation are presenting the exhibition "Mirό, Challenging Painting" ("Mirό, La Peinture au défi"), which runs until 25 October.  The exhibition is organised by the Joan Mirό Estate, Joan Punyet Mirό (the painter's grandson) and the Gmurzynska Gallery, in collaboration with the Successiό Mirό and the Fundaciόn Mapfre.  It features more than fifty paintings, three sculptures and a fine collection of collages and drawings, covering this Catalan artist's entire career.

In particular, the display highlights the creation of the ballet "Children's Games" ("Jeux d'enfants");  Joan Miró designed the set and costumes of this ballet in 1932 for the Ballets Russes de Monte-Carlo company.  The exhibition also includes radical, lesser-known works from the 1960s and 1970s.

"Mirό, Challenging Painting" examines the artist's tireless persistence in finding new means of expression for his pictorial techniques.

On 24 September, as a side-event of the exhibition, a work by the painter, donated by Joan Punyet Mirό, will be auctioned in aid of the Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation, on the occasion of the Monte-Carlo Gala for Planetary Health, the theme of which this year is the Ocean, the Earth and Humanity.
