Nice attack: Principality joins France in national mourning
Following the tragic events which occurred last night in Nice and to share in the period of national mourning declared by the French authorities, the Prince’s Government, acting on the instructions of H.S.H. Prince Albert II, has decided:
- to fly flags at half-mast on public buildings and at all of the Principality’s embassies and consulates abroad
- to cancel the following public events:
- Friday 15 July 2016
- Monte-Carlo Summer Festival concert
- Sunday 17 July 2016
- 11th International Organ Festival at Monaco Cathedral
- Concert by the Monte-Carlo Philharmonic Orchestra in the Royal Courtyard of the Prince’s Palace
- Monday 18 July 2016
- Opening of the Albert II downhill tunnel (postponed)
- Performance at Fort Antoine (My Traitor by Sorj Chalandon)
Like other sporting events, such as today’s Tour de France stage, the Herculis meeting will go ahead to avoid penalising the athletes, for whom this is a final opportunity to qualify for the Olympic Games in Rio. The meeting’s programme will be strictly limited to sporting activities, and a special tribute will be paid to the victims of the attack on the Promenade des Anglais.
Given the deep and personal ties which unite Monaco and the residents of the Alpes-Maritimes region, a psychological support unit has been opened at Princess Grace Hospital.
A Requiem Mass in memory of the victims will be celebrated in the presence of H.S.H. the Sovereign Prince at Monaco Cathedral at 11 a.m. on Saturday 16 July 2016.
