Monaco Takes Part in the 26th Congress of the Universal Postal Union

The monégasque délégation during the 26th Congress of the Universal Postal Union

A delegation led by H.E. Ms. Carole Lanteri, Ambassador, Permanent Representative of Monaco to the United Nations Office in Geneva, accompanied by Mr. Jean-Luc Delcroix, Director of Monaco Post Office, is taking part in the 26th Congress of the Universal Postal Union (UPU), which is being held from 20 September 2016 to 7 October 2016 in Istanbul.

The theme of this Congress is the Sustainable Development Goals, which were adopted in September 2015, the implementation of which also involves the postal world.  The Istanbul Strategy, the Organisation's action programme for the next four years, focuses in particular on the SDGs and the added value that the postal services can bring to help achieve these goals.

At the Ministerial Conference held on 4 October in the presence of the highest Turkish Authorities, the Principality presented the projects implemented by Monaco Post Office to meet the challenges of the 21st century – challenges linked to the digitisation of our societies.  This is reflected in the provision of services to individuals and businesses throughout Monaco.

As a reminder, every four years, the UPU Congress brings together representatives from its 192 member countries to define the future global postal strategy and the Union's four-year road map, and finally to establish regulations and standards that facilitate and secure the international exchange of letters and parcels, as well as a wide range of reliable, affordable electronic and financial services.
