Supporting Creative Work

The Prince’s Government is keen to encourage all types of cultural expression.  It is therefore committed to pursuing a policy of supporting creative work at both the local and international levels.

International contemporary art

It is Government policy to support creative expression, particularly through the Fondation Prince Pierre  (The Prince Pierre Foundation). This Foundation awards prizes to artists in the areas of literature, music and contemporary art, and promotes international cultural exchanges, especially in the field of dance with the Monaco Dance Forum , which is now an internationally renowned event.

Support for Monegasque Cultural Associations

The State offers ongoing assistance to Monegasque cultural associations and groups, including by making available, free of charge and in working order, the cultural facilities managed by the Department of Cultural Affairs, this allows them to vary their repertoire and reach out to new audiences.

In addition, some organisations benefit from an annual operating grant.  Similarly, the "Forum des Associations Culturelles" (Forum of Cultural Associations), a biennial event, enables associations to meet, present their activities to the public and offer demonstrations in various areas (such as the visual arts, music, dance, theatre, literature and international cultural exchanges).

Measures to help artists

The Prince’s Government places great importance on including artists in its cultural policy.

Therefore, thanks to State support, some Monegasque and residents artists can benefit from help with creating an artistic project, subject to certain conditions.

The Annuaire des Artistes de Monaco , (Directory of Monaco Artists) has been available on the Internet since 2006. All the Monegasque artists are listed, as well as those who have strong links with the Principality. In addition, it highlights institutions, associations and various groups working in the field of artistic creation and cultural expression.

A law has recently been promulgated on support for artists. This allows them to be granted the status of professional artist subject to certain conditions. ( Act no. 1.360 of 04 July 2009 concerning support and social protection for professional self-employed artists) and to benefit from social protection, as well as other support, such as help with setting up.

Since 2012, the Monaco Artists’ Forum has been organised every two years, giving both amateurs and professionals an opportunity to exhibit their works and meet the public.
