Accreditation of H.E. Mrs Anne Eastwood as Ambassador of Monaco to San Marino

On 9 February, H.E. Mrs Anne Eastwood, accompanied by Mrs Rossana Michelotti, Honorary Consul of Monaco in San Marino, presented her letters of credence to Mr Filippo Tamagnini and Mr Gaetano Troina, Captains Regent of the Republic of San Marino.

The ceremony, which took place at Palazzo Pubblico, was attended by the Ambassador and seven of her counterparts accredited to the Italian Republic, including the Ambassadors of France and Germany. They all officially took up their duties in San Marino on that day as non-resident Ambassadors.

On the previous day, H.E. Mrs Anne Eastwood met with Mr Luca Beccari, Minister of Foreign Affairs, followed by a meeting with representatives of the San Marino Chamber of Commerce.

Discussions were centred around the historically close and amicable relations between San Marino and Monaco. With a population of 34,000 and a territory of 61 km², San Marino is the 3rd smallest state in Europe after the Vatican and the Principality, with which it shares some common problems.

The negotiations with the European Union on an association agreement, which have been ongoing since 2015, were naturally one of the main topics under discussion. Despite the different outcomes recently reached by the two countries, both Minister Beccari and the Ambassador praised the excellent collaboration forged within this framework and affirmed their willingness to pursue further talks and intensify cooperation, both bilaterally and as part of initiatives aimed at uniting Europe's smaller states on a broader scale.

H.E. Mrs Anne Eastwood also took this opportunity to welcome the recent election of the Director of San Marino's Financial Intelligence Agency as head of MONEYVAL, which Monaco fully supported.
