Already accredited to Italy and Slovenia, H.E. Mrs Anne Eastwood presented her letters of credence to H.E. Mr George Vella, President of the Republic of Malta, at a ceremony held at the Presidential Palace in Valletta on 30 January.

The private audience discussions highlighted the strong amicable relations between Malta and Monaco, two small European states with a Catholic tradition, united by a shared Mediterranean identity and mutual values and principles, including the importance of taking action in international arenas to accelerate progress, particularly in the environmental field, where both countries are heavily involved and often share the same views. These discussions continued during a luncheon hosted by the President of the Republic and his wife at their residence, San Anton Palace, with around thirty guests in attendance.

The Ambassador also met with H.E. Mr Ian Borg, Minister for Foreign and European Affairs and Trade to discuss potential areas of cooperation in economic sectors where synergies could be developed, such as tourism, yachting and artificial intelligence. The similar stances of both countries regarding key multilateral issues and the two major ongoing conflicts in Ukraine and the Middle East were also highlighted. The Ambassador praised the key role Malta has played in peace and security through its current mandate within the UN Security Council and, since January, at the head of the OSCE, which demonstrates the ability of countries to influence major strategic issues, regardless of their size.

Finally, the day after her accreditation to Parliament, H.E. Mrs Anne Eastwood was welcomed by

Mr Angelo Ferruggia, Speaker of the House of Representatives, before visiting Epic, Malta's leading mobile phone operator and a subsidiary of Monaco Telecom since 2020.

H.E. Mrs Eastwood is the Principality's second Ambassador and first woman accredited to the Republic of Malta, succeeding H.E. Mr Robert Fillon in 2018.
