In attendance at the 55th Session of the UN Human Rights Council held in Geneva from 26 February to 5 April 2024, the Monegasque delegation spoke during an interactive dialogue session held on 1 March 2024 with the UN Special Rapporteur on human rights in Sudan.

During this session, Mr Gilles Realini, Monaco’s Counsellor and Deputy Permanent Representative to the United Nations Office in Geneva, spoke about the current status of human rights in Sudan.  He expressed the Principality’s deep concern about the alarming situation in Sudan described in the Special Rapporteur’s report. Mr Realini also reiterated Monaco’s appeal for an immediate and unhindered humanitarian response, as well as a political and negotiated solution for a return to democratic transition. He concluded by reaffirming Monaco’s support for enhanced international cooperation aimed at restoring peace and stability in Sudan.

The Human Rights Council, a subsidiary body of the United Nations General Assembly, is the primary UN organisation with competence in the field of promoting and protecting human rights. It is headquartered in Geneva and is made up of 47 nations elected by the General Assembly for a period of three years.
