The founding of Monte-Carlo
Charles III, in 1866, gave his name to the new town growing on the plateau of the Spélugues, around the casino and the hôtel de Paris, which had opened two years earlier. The number of hotels, restaurants, cafés and buildings increased, and Saint Charles’ Church was opened in 1883.
