Annual bitter orange harvest

Gardeners from the Department of Urban Amenities are currently undertaking their annual harvest of the Principality’s bitter orange trees.

The Principality has 964 citrus trees (orange, lemon, clementine, etc.), and 566 of them are untreated bitter orange trees (inventory carried out in December 2022).
Every year, during January and February, the Department of Urban Amenities’ gardeners prune the various fruit trees and harvest the bitter oranges that grow on the trees lining the thoroughfares in the Condamine, Moneghetti and Monte-Carlo districts.

As in previous years, anyone who would like to enjoy some of this annual bitter orange harvest should approach the gardeners on the streets.

In 2022, 1.3 tonnes of fruit, from the approximately 7.6 tonnes harvested, were distributed to local people free of charge, as well as to Monaco’s Vocational and Catering School, where it will be turned into fruit jellies and jam.

The gardeners will be harvesting the bitter oranges in accordance with the following schedule:
(* from 8 am to 12 pm and 2 pm to 3.30 pm, subject to weather conditions and the progress of the harvest)
- Condamine Sector:
16 to 26 January: Rue Princesse Caroline
30 January to 10 February: Rue Grimaldi

- Moneghetti Sector:
16 to 27 January: Boulevard de Belgique

- Monte-Carlo Sector:
16 to 20 January: Avenue de Grande Bretagne
23 to 27 January: Boulevard de Suisse and Boulevard d’Italie
