The Burkina Faso National Fire Brigade (BNSP) is visiting the Principality on Monday 21 and Tuesday 22 October to meet their Monegasque peers and to attend a review of the evaluation of the partnership for the period 2016–2019.

The meeting is taking place as part of the Monegasque Cooperation for Development’s flagship “Civil Protection” programme, which operates in Burkina Faso and Mauritania, and was more recently extended to Mali, drawing on the support and technical expertise of the Monaco Fire and Emergency Service.

In Burkina Faso, the partnership was first launched in 2004 at the behest of Prince Rainier III, with the donation of an extrication vehicle in the margins of the 10th La Francophonie Summit in Ouagadougou. Over the years, the partnership has been strengthened, resulting in the current cooperation at the political (Sectoral Framework Agreement signed in 2016, establishing a high-level dialogue), operational (essential involvement of the Fire and Emergency Service) and above all human (regular discussions between teams) levels.

We welcome this evaluation, which is key to improving our collaboration and thereby increasing the impact of this cooperation for the benefit of the people of Burkina Faso” emphasised Colonel Tony Varo, Supreme Commander of the Military Force.

In addition to reviewing the evaluation, a technical meeting on the partnership provided an opportunity to discuss the prospects for continuing cooperation. Representatives from the BNSP were also able to visit the Monaco Fire and Emergency Service’s fire stations for an overview of the resources and techniques available to their Monegasque peers: the operational centre and the firefighting vehicles and equipment (urban and technological risks, water rescue, hazardous rescue operations).
