Monaco’s Permanent Representation to the United Nations co-chairs the 30th Meeting of States parties to the International Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination
Ms Alyson Calem-Sangiorgio, Second Secretary to Monaco’s Permanent Representation to the United Nations, was elected to co-chair the 30th Meeting of States Parties to the International Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination.
The purpose of the meeting, held on 22 June 2023, was to elect nine new members of the Committee on the Elimination of Racial Discrimination (CERD)*. Composed of 18 independent experts**, the Committee meets three times per year to examine reports by the States Parties and issue recommendations on the promotion and implementation of the Convention.
The uncontested election of Ms Alyson Calem-Sangiorgio as Co-Chair demonstrates the Prince’s Government’s commitment to defending human rights.
*Newly elected members of the Committee are from the following countries: China, Greece, Jamaica, Liberia, Malawi, Morocco, Mauritania, Senegal and South Africa.
** They join members on the Committee since 2020 from the following countries: Algeria, Cameroon, Côte d'Ivoire, Mauritius, Poland, Republic of Korea, Togo, Turkey and the United States.
