H.S.H. Prince Albert III travelled to Vienna for the 60th General Conference of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), held from 26 to 30 September 2016.

The Sovereign Prince was the guest of honour at the Scientific Forum, the main side-event of the conference – a high-level meeting at which scientists and experts meet to discuss one of the Agency's priority topics.  The theme of the Forum this year was "Nuclear Technology for the Sustainable Development Goals."

In his speech, H.S.H. Prince Albert II recalled "His commitment and that of the Principality to building a peaceful, better world through the use of nuclear applications at the service of sustainable development."  In particular, the Sovereign Prince emphasised his deep attachment to protecting the environment and promoting world health.  Finally, he referred to the long-standing partnership between the Agency and the Principality, which has been hosting the headquarters of the IAEA's Environment Laboratories, located on the Quai Antoine Ier, since 1961.

Following His speech at the Scientific Forum, H.S.H. Prince Albert II visited the Seibersdorf Laboratories, another of the IAEA's research centres, which are the "terrestrial" counterpart of the Monaco Environment Laboratories.
