From 25 to 26 October 2023, the Principality of Monaco took part in the ninth session of the Conference of the Parties to the International Convention against Doping in Sport, convened at UNESCO Headquarters in Paris. Discussions focused on strengthening the impact of the Convention as an instrument of international public law in the areas of values, ethics and integrity in sport.

Since the previous conference, the Prince’s Government has continued its efforts via the national anti-doping platform, to strengthen the legislative and regulatory framework for the fight against doping and to establish annual support for anti-doping research in the form of a UNESCO Chair programme at Université Paris Nanterre. Two second-year graduate students participated as part of their research on “How to comply with anti-doping requirements and the issues faced by small European States”, and “The World Anti-Doping Code at the local level: a study in Senegal.”

These provisions allow Monaco to comply with its treaty obligations.

The Monaco delegation was led by H.E. Anne-Marie Boisbouvier, Monaco’s Permanent Delegate to UNESCO. She was accompanied by H.E. Mr Philippe Orengo, Ambassador and President of the Monegasque Anti-Doping Committee, Ms Sévérine Dusaintpere, Monaco’s Deputy Permanent Representative to UNESCO and Ms Syrine Ben Rejeb, intern.
