Diplomatic relations established between the Principality of Monaco and the Plurinational State of Bolivia
On 26 July 2024, the Plurinational State of Bolivia became the 160th State with which the Principality of Monaco has established diplomatic relations. A joint communiqué was signed by the Ambassadors and Permanent Representatives of the two countries to the United Nations in New York, H.E. Mr Diego Pary Rodriguez and H.E. Ms Isabelle Picco.
Bolivia is a landlocked country in South America with a multi-ethnic population. While Spanish is the lingua franca, the Constitution of Bolivia recognises 36 official languages, of which Quechua is the most widespread.
At the signing of the agreement, the Ambassadors discussed the importance of culture and multilingualism in mutually understanding and respecting differences, particularly in light of negotiations currently underway to sign the Pact for the Future in the lead up to the United Nations Summit of the Future.
