Seven new hybrid buses to be brought into service soon

This morning, a Monegasque Bus Company (CAM) hybrid bus was presented to H.S.H. the Sovereign Prince, Ms Marie-Pierre Gramaglia, Minister of Public Works, the Environment and Urban Development, and Mr Jean-Joseph Pastor, Chairman of the Board of CAM. During the first quarter of 2016, seven new hybrid buses will be introduced on the Monegasque network (services 1, 2, 4 and 6).

These buses will be equipped with new engines to reduce fossil fuel emissions. The use of DIESTER biofuel should also help to reduce fossil fuel emissions by 45% compared with an equivalent diesel vehicle.

Once the buses have been delivered, the entire fleet will be capable of transporting persons with reduced mobility and wheelchairs, in line with European recommendations. The middle platforms of these new vehicles will be able to accommodate two wheelchairs and those with reduced mobility will have access to six seats with no step. The tram-style doors will make the buses easier to board. Finally, the doors will open at the request of passengers and will close automatically after sounding a signal.

The vehicle exteriors will adopt the style used for the MONACOBUS mobile app and the destination will be displayed on the side to improve visibility.

Further reporting will follow on Monaco Info, starting this evening.
