Nice Attack : Princess Grace Hospital mobilised

Following the attack in Nice, Princess Grace Hospital (CHPG) mobilised straight away, in coordination with the French authorities.

Immediately after the attack, a crisis cell was set up comprising the hospital’s director, Mr Patrick Bini, and Professor Yann-Erick Claessens, Head of the Accident and Emergency Department. The cell has been in direct contact with the French authorities (Directorate General of Health, PACA Regional Health Agency, Nice University Hospital) since yesterday night.

Mr Stéphane Valeri, Minister of Health and Social Affairs, was promptly informed and regularly updated on the situation and the measures being taken.

CHPG was placed on pre-alert straight away, and the majority of department heads were contacted and put on standby to come into the hospital.

It was not necessary to activate the Plan Blanc.

CHPG informed Nice University Hospital of its availability in terms of beds, blood products and staff should they be required.

During the night, the CHPG Accident and Emergency Department treated two victims sent by Nice University Hospital, who were admitted to the Orthopaedics Department.

It is worth noting that CHPG received numerous inquiries from people wishing:

  • firstly, to give blood.

We would like to thank the many individuals who contacted the Blood Transfusion Centre for their show of solidarity. For the time being, the Etablissement Français du Sang (EFS, French Blood Transfusion Service) has asked us not to appeal for donations since the reserves built up for the Euro 2016 championship have been sufficient to meet requirements. Should the need arise, the EFS will inform us of the nearest collection point to Nice hospitals to which donors should be directed, and we will communicate this information immediately.

  • secondly, to make use of the Psychological Support Unit in the cases of those who witnessed the attack.

The Princess Grace Hospital management team has set up a Psychological Support Unit. Those who require support are asked to go to the Psychiatry Department where they will receive treatment, including over the weekend.
