Monaco attends the 126th Ministerial Session of the Council of Europe

Mr. Gilles Tonelli, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, accompanied by H.E. Mr. Rémi Mortier, Ambassador, Permanent Representative of Monaco to the Council of Europe and Mr. Gabriel Revel, Deputy Permanent Representative, took part in the 126th Ministerial Session of the Council of Europe.

The meeting was held on 18 May in Sofia, and was attended by Ministers of Foreign Affairs from the 47 member States.

In his speech, Mr. Gilles Tonelli addressed numerous points that the Ministers had discussed during their work:

  • democratic security for all in Europe at a time of great challenges;
  • combating violent extremism and radicalisation leading to terrorism;
  • how to respond to the refugee crisis;
  • the key role of democracy, human rights and the rule of law in conflict resolution;
  • securing the long-term effectiveness of the system of the European Convention on Human    Rights;
  • the Council of Europe's policy on neighbouring regions;
  • cooperation with the European Union.
