Monaco Takes Part in the 66th Session of the World Health Organization's Regional Committee for Europe

A delegation* led by H.E. Ms. Carole Lanteri, Ambassador, Permanent Representative of Monaco to the United Nations in Geneva, took part in the work of the 66th session of the World Health Organization's Regional Committee for Europe.**  This event, attended by more than 400 delegates, was held from 12 to 15 September 2016 in Copenhagen, Denmark, under the high patronage and in the presence of H.R.H. Crown Princess Mary of Denmark and the Director-General of the WHO, Dr. Margaret Chan.

The debates focused in particular on the central role of health in the implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, the deployment at the regional level of the WHO's new programme for managing emergency health situations and the implementation of a strategy on the health of refugees and migrants.

In her report, the Regional Director, Dr. Zsuzsanna Jakab, highlighted the main activities of the Regional Office, mentioning the Principality of Monaco several times.  Tribute was paid to the event held last December on the sidelines of COP21 (UNFCCC) by WHO Europe, Monaco Scientific Centre and the Alliance for Health and the Environment, in which H.S.H. Prince Albert II participated.

Furthermore, the Principality was thanked for hosting the third High-Level Meeting of the Small States Initiative, which is due to take place next October.  This meeting will be an opportunity for the Health Ministers of eight countries with less than a million inhabitants from the WHO's European region to identify the strengths of those States in implementing health-related sustainable development goals.

*The delegation was comprised of:  H.E. Ms. Carole Lanteri, Ambassador, Permanent Representative of the Principality of Monaco to the United Nations Office in Geneva, Dr Alexandre Bordero, Director of Health Affairs, Chrystel Chanteloube, Third Secretary at the Permanent Mission of Monaco to the United Nations Office in Geneva and Alexis Poyet, Secretary for External Relations at the Department of International Relations.
