The 55th International Bouquet Competition - dedicated to the seas and oceans

The Garden Club de Monaco, founded in 1968 by Princess Grace of Monaco, is holding the 55th International Bouquet Competition on 4 and 5 May 2024 at the Yacht Club de Monaco.

Under the High Patronage of H.S.H. Prince Albert II and presided over by H.R.H. The Princess of Hanover, the theme of this 55th edition is “Seas and Oceans”.

The categories for this theme are all "free" and open to everybody; (amateurs or professionals, designers, or teachers, except for the 'youth' category, which is reserved for children aged 6 to 14):

  1. Vintage sailing boats: large size
  2. Coral reefs: on a base
  3. Fishing nets: recessed
  4. Sea storms: on a pedestal
  5. Ice floes or icebergs: recessed
  6. Lunch on board: table decor
  7. The Beach (youth categories): recessed

Entries to the competition are open until 26 April 2024.

The "special panel" of judges presided over by H.R.H. The Princess of Hanover comprises leading figures from the world of arts and literature who will be awarding prizes.

The "official panel”, comprised of judges, teachers, international authors, and floral art specialists, will award the Gold, Silver and Bronze Insignia and the General Grand Prize, in addition to the Princess Grace of Monaco Prize.

The Garden Club de Monaco Conferences, which are free and open to the public, will also be held in the prestigious setting of the Yacht Club de Monaco on Sunday, 5 May from 11am to 1pm:

-          "Ikebana and floral decoration": Marco Ryoen Di Marco, teacher at the Ikebana Ohara Bologna Study Group, will be giving a presentation on Ikebana, its evolution, and the different methods of composing floral decorations according to this traditional Japanese art. 

-          "The principal methods of propagating orchids: plant division, sowing and cloning" and an orchid care demonstration by Joël Jutel, Head of Cultivation at Les Orchidées Michel Vacherot.

-          "The Art of Bonsai in Japan, with a demonstration of shaping by wiring": Hiroko Kinoshita discusses bonsai culture in Japan, followed by a demonstration of shaping a bonsai by Jonathan Pons (director of the Bonsai Centre in Nice) and his colleague Jean-Marc Gubbiotti. 

This year's conferences will also be followed by a demonstration by Kévin Billard, floral designer at the Prince's Palace, on Sunday, 5 May from 3pm to 4.30pm.

Admission is free and open to all. Visitors can browse the displays on Saturday, 4 May from 6pm to 7.30pm and on Sunday, 5 May from 9.30am to 6pm.
