From 28 May to 3 June 2017, Monaco Tourist and Convention Authority (DTC) undertook a promotional tour in Brazil to continue its long-term strategy of diversifying markets that generate tourism for the Principality.  The DTC's Press Department and Sales and Leisure Department were able to make several trips, thanks to their representative office in Brazil.

As part of this promotional tour, on Sunday 28 May, at 9 a.m., 50 guests from the press and the leisure tourism sector watched the Monaco F1 Grand Prix at the "Cervejeria Nacional" brewery in São Paulo, which is next to the Ayrton Senna Foundation.

Corinne Kiabski, Head of the DTC's Press Department, and Laurence Aquilina, from the Sales and Leisure Department, noted that Formula 1 remains, with football, one of the most popular sports in Brazil.  Ayrton Senna's six victories in the Principality have made the Monaco Grand Prix the Brazilians' favourite race, creating close links between the two countries.

After two days of meetings in São Paulo, the Monegasque delegation flew to Brasilia to attend events held for "high-end" customers.

The delegation then travelled to Rio de Janeiro where, first of all, a cocktail party was organised for travel agents.

On the following days, the delegation met with agencies specialising in luxury tourism and with media agencies, such as "TV Globo" (the leading Brazilian communications group) to initiate new projects for programmes with Monaco.

The tour ended in Curitiba, Brazil's eighth most populated city, which is known worldwide for its urban planning, ecological innovations, transportation network and quality of life.

In Curitiba, the delegation from the DTC undertook a tour by train, in carriages that had been privately hired especially for the occasion.  This was an opportunity for members of the DTC to inform Brazilian travel agents and journalists of the latest news from "Destination Monaco" in an unusual setting.

As a reminder, despite its political problems, Brazil is still the 9th largest economic power in the world.  In 2017, the Brazilian economy is moving towards gradual growth recovery.  Analysts forecast a slight recovery in investment for this year (an increase of approximately 2%), prior to a stronger recovery in 2018.
