Jeun’Elec 2019 award ceremony

As part of the 20th Jeun’Elec event, Monaco’s Club des Véhicules Électriques (Electric Vehicles Club), working closely with the Department of the Environment and the Department of Education, Youth and Sport, held its award ceremony during the Ever Exhibition at Grimaldi Forum on Friday 10 May 2019.

Willing Year 9 (4ème) pupils from Collège Charles III and Collège Saint-François d’Assise Nicolas Barré (FANB) had been invited to take part in the Jeun’Elec competition for the 2018–2019 school year. The idea of the competition was to devise a slogan and design a logo to promote electric transport.

Ms Marie-Pierre Gramaglia, Minister of Public Works, the Environment and Urban Development, presented an electric bike donated by the Club to the two competition winners: Thibault GILBERT (4ème C, FANB) for the winning logo and Aura HOOD (4ème 8, Collège Charles III) for the slogan “Roulez green, c’est plus clean” (“Travel green, it’s cleaner”). SMEG donated a hi-fi system and a smart backpack.

The second-prize winners, Lorène FONTANA (4èmeC, FANB) in the logo competition and Jade GRECCHI (4èmeB, FANB) for the slogan “GoBike, GoGreen, GoElectric”, received a Little Board Booster V electric scooter donated by the Club and a speaker donated by SMEG.

Rania TABARANI (4ème12, CIII) and Sao-Mai LEMONNIER (4èmeB, FANB) came third in the logo competition, and Luna OCCELLI (4ème 12, CIII) and Justine BONNARD (4ème 7, CIII) were awarded third place for their slogans “L’avenir est dans l’œil de celui qui le recharge” (“The future is in the eye of those who recharge it”) and “Soyez au courant pas au carburant” (“Be in the know: choose electricity, not fuel”), respectively. All four received a Ninebot ES2 scooter from the Club and a sound bar from SMEG. The scooters were presented by Mr Pedro DE LA ROSA, the former Formula 1 driver who now acts as an advisor to the Formula E team DS Techeetah, and Mr Marc MOUROU, a member of the National Council.

In addition to these prizes, the Department of the Environment gave out protective gear to everyone: helmets and gloves for all pupils, and knee pads for those who won a scooter.

The aim of Jeun’Elec is to raise pupils’ awareness of the need to look after the environment by limiting the pollution caused by road transport, and of the concept of multimodal transport. In preparation for the event, all Year 9 pupils took part in a lesson focused on these topics as part of their physics and chemistry curriculum, and spent a day testing out electric vehicles during which the main modes of transport were presented.
