On Tuesday, 5th September, a press conference for the start of the 2023 school year was held at the Lycée Rainier III (formerly the Lycée Technique et Hôtelier), in the presence of Mr Patrice Cellario, the Minister of Interior, Mr Christophe Robino, the Minister of Health and Social Affairs and numerous representatives of the Prince's Government and the Principality's institutions.

Mrs Isabelle Bonnal, Commissioner General for the Department of Education, Youth and Sport, took the opportunity to outline the three main themes that will shape the Monegasque education system over the coming school year.

These will be centred on :

  • A tribute to Prince Rainier III.  Mrs Bonnal stated during her speech: "To honour the Prince, who left his mark on the history and future of the Principality, I decided, with the support of the Prince's Family, to dedicate the 2023 International Children's Rights Day to a care facility on the other side of the world: the Préventorium in Madagascar, also known as the Foyer Rainier III”.
  • The well-being of students, staff and the entire educational community
  • Inclusion strengthened through living together.

This year, 5657 pupils will be joining the Principality's educational establishments on 11 September, including 4314 in state education and 1343 in private education. These pupils will be cared for, welcomed and taught by 876 staff from Monaco's public and private education establishments.
