www.cartoradio.mc now online - Website maps radio waves in Principality

Following on from the launch of the 5G network in the Principality last July, and in a bid to ensure transparency, the Monegasque Government is publishing information about all 32 radio electronic sites that make up the country’s public electronic communications networks (broadcasting and mobile telephony) on the website www.cartoradio.mc .

The website also provides details of the latest electromagnetic field measurements taken by the Smart Nation Department. These are regularly updated and highlight compliance with the exposure limits established by the Principality.

Cartoradio.mc is enhanced by the mapping of electromagnetic fields onto public roads. “An exposure meter took 3,800 measurements every 10 seconds, which is equal to every 10 metres for a pedestrian walking at a speed of five kilometres per hour. All of the Principality’s roads and pedestrian walkways have been included. All measurements are georeferencand timestamped,” explains Christophe Pierre, Director of the Smart Nation Department, adding, “and we don’t intend to stop there!”

Before the middle of 2020, the map will also include measurements from ground sensors deployed in Monaco, which will be monitoring the electromagnetic field on a continuous basis so that it can be viewed... in real time. “We will be deploying 17 sensors in order to cover the entire territory of Monaco. These new sensors will be able to measure electromagnetic fields (mobile and total) on an ongoing basis, 24 hours a day, and measurements will be recorded every six minutes! Thanks to these tools, the measurements will be available to the public more or less as they are taken,” Christophe Pierre continues. Powered by solar energy, the sensors are also fully autonomous. They have been installed as a priority on the roofs of the Principality’s primary schools (Charles III, Les Carmes, Saint Charles, etc.) and Princess Grace Hospital.

By employing this tool, the Government is reaffirming its commitment, firstly to monitoring the regulations introduced in the Principality which, since 2010, have taken a more cautious approach than any other international or national regulations, and secondly, to ensuring the information transparency that is paramount in its health monitoring efforts.

In parallel, all households in the Principality have received a leaflet answering the most frequently asked questions on this issue. The leaflet is also available on the Government’s official website (www.gouv.mc ).
