Sainte Dévote

A young Corsican girl who was martyred on the island because of her faith, Devota (end of the 3rd century, beginning of the 4th century) died without renouncing this faith. The villagers placed her body in a boat, hoping that it would drift towards Africa where she would be given a sepulchre, something that was forbidden by Roman authorities. However, a miraculous dove came out of the mouth of the saint and guided the boat to the Valley of the Gaumates, to roughly the same place where the Sainte Dévote church is currently located.
