TRANSPORTATION IN THE PRINCIPALITY: A PROGRESS REPORT ON THE CURRENT INITIATIVES
Transportation is central to Monaco's quality of life and appeal. The Prince's Government continues to demonstrate its commitment to making lasting improvements to travel in the Principality through several practical measures taken in recent months.
The Salines car park withstood the demands of the Grand Prix
All the implemented measures were put to a real test during the latest Grand Prix. The Salines car park reached a 93% capacity rate on the busiest days, with 1,662 vehicles parked there on the day of the Grand Prix. The new online booking platform recorded more than 500 bookings per day throughout the weekend. These figures attest to the importance of such measures, their widespread use, and the effectiveness of the digital tools implemented.
Trains: the pillar of net-zero transportation
Trains remain the leading form of net-zero public transport to and from the Principality, and the Prince's Government is closely monitoring the commitments made by operator Sud Azur. In 2025, the number of trains running through Monaco station rose to 124 per day on weekdays and over 140 per day on weekends, compared with the previous figure of 95. This growth has led to increased capacity and extended timetables. The Principality is working closely with national and regional French authorities on this issue and continues to invest: two additional trains will enter service in 2027.
Urban transport: services are on the rise
The CAM network continues to grow. In 2024, passenger numbers exceeded 7.6 million, up 4% compared to 2023. Express lines are becoming firmly established, as is the ClicBus service, which meets a specific and additional demand. Contactless payment has become widespread, with nearly 970,000 transactions in 2024. The electric fleet is currently being rolled out: by the end of 2025, all regular routes will be served by 100% electric buses. This momentum is also seen in the use of bike-sharing schemes. The MonaBike service recorded an all-time high in May 2025, with 82,048 trips made, representing a 43% increase compared to May 2024. This figure exceeds the previous record set in July 2024, reflecting the growing success of soft mobility in the Principality.
Traffic regulation: the launch of a Limited Traffic Zone trial during the summer
A Limited Traffic Zone (LTZ) trial will be launched in the summer of 2025. This project, currently being developed by government departments, aims to improve traffic flow throughout the Principality in order to uphold residents' quality of life while maintaining the Principality's appeal. The exact details will be announced in the coming weeks.
The Prince's Government remains fully committed to rigorously and methodically improving transport in Monaco to meet the needs of residents and commuters, whose concerns are always at the forefront.
