On Friday 16 June 2017, Gilles Tonelli, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, received, at a lunch held at the Monte-Carlo Bay, H.E. Mr Moin ul Haque, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, H.E. Mr Rupert Schlegelmilch, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the European Union, H.E. Ms Carmen Maria Gallardo Hernandez, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of El Salvador, and H.E. Mr Imants Viesturs Lieģis, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Latvia, who presented their credentials to H.S.H. the Sovereign Prince during the morning.

H.E. Mr Moin ul Haque joined the Foreign Service of Pakistan in 1987, becoming Director in 2005, then Director General in 2013. He was appointed Chief of Protocol in the same year. He has held numerous diplomatic posts overseas, including in Brussels, New York, Colombo, Vancouver and Ankara.

After five years at the European Commission’s Directorate-General for External Relations in Brussels, H.E. MrRupert Schlegelmilch joined the Directorate-General for Trade in 2003 as Head of the International Trade Relations Unit. In 2012, he was appointed Director for Trade in Services, Investment, Government Procurement and the Protection of Intellectual Property Rights.

H.E. Ms Carmen Maria Gallardo Hernandez began her diplomatic career in 1993 as El Salvador’s Ambassador and Permanent Representative to UNESCO. She was subsequently appointed as Ambassador to France and Portugal, Executive Director of FUNDAPAZ and as a member of the International Task Force on Preventive Diplomacy. In 2007, she became Permanent Representative to the United Nations in New York, later taking up post as Ambassador to Austria and five countries of eastern and south-eastern Europe. In 2014, H.E. Ms Hernandez joined the Permanent Representation to International Organisations and the United Nations in Vienna.

Appointed as Latvia’s Ambassador to Belgium, the Netherlands and Luxembourg in 1997, H.E. Mr Imants Viesturs Lieģis joined the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 2004 as Under-Secretary of State. He subsequently took up post as Ambassador to Spain. In 2010, he was appointed first as Acting Minister of Justice and subsequently as Minister of Defence. He then joined parliament as Chairman of the European Affairs Committee. From September 2012 to June 2016, he served as Ambassador to Hungary, Montenegro, Croatia and Slovenia.
