Annual reception at the Embassy of Monaco in Spain
On 11 July, H.E. Mr Jean-Luc Van Klaveren, Monaco’s Ambassador to Spain, and his wife held a reception in the gardens of the official Residence in Brussels to commemorate the anniversary of H.S.H. the Sovereign Prince’s enthronement.
The event was attended by nearly 300 people and the theme for the evening was “Monaco and Sport”. Various elements recalling sporting events in the Principality – the Rallye de Monte-Carlo, the Formula 1 Grand Prix, the Monte-Carlo Rolex Masters and the Show-Jumping event, for example – adorned the garden for the reception. The Automobile Club of Monaco supplied decorations (marshals’ uniforms, rally plates), as well as videos and photographs which were featured in the evening’s entertainment.
Among those attending the reception were numerous ambassadors accredited to Spain (representing China, Algeria, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Croatia, Serbia, Ukraine, Vietnam, Palestine, Belgium, etc.), representatives of diplomatic missions (from the USA, France, Italy, South Africa, Afghanistan, Morocco, etc.), and officials from the Spanish Royal Guard (including Colonel-in-Chief Eduardo Diz Monje), the Spanish Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and the World Tourism Organization. In addition to Monaco’s consuls in Spain, Ms Danièle Biancheri, Monaco’s Consul General in Santiago de Chile, was also in attendance.
In his speech, H.E. Mr Jean-Luc Van Klaveren emphasised the role of sport in showcasing the Principality’s appeal.
On the morning after the reception, a working meeting for Monaco’s consuls in Spain was held at the Residence, followed by a lunch to which spouses were also invited.
