Accreditation of H.E. Ms Anne EASTWOOD as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Monaco to Italy
On 14 November 2022, in Rome, at an official ceremony held at the Palazzo del Quirnale, H.E. Ms Anne Eastwood presented her letters of credence to the President of the Italian Republic, Mr Sergio Mattarella, in her role as the new Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Monaco to Italy.
The accreditation ceremony was followed by a private meeting at the prestigious Studio alla Vetrata, which just a few weeks ago was the scene of political consultations to form the new Italian Government. The President of the Republic was accompanied by his diplomatic advisors and by the Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Mr Edmondo Cirielli, representing Italy’s executive branch.
In addition to the close economic and cultural ties and partnerships with the Liguria Region, there was also discussion of the recent visits by the Sovereign Prince to the Grimaldis’ former lands, and the planned twinning of Monaco with the municipality of Dolceaqua (in the province of Imperia), which reflect the centuries-old friendship between the Principality and Italy, and Prince Albert II’s support for efforts to promote these territories and develop joint projects and exchanges.
Various matters of common interest were then discussed, following on from the Italo-Monegasque accords recently signed in areas including taxation, the economy, and humanitarian efforts. Both the Monegasque Ambassador and the Italian Head of State expressed their delight with their strong bilateral relations, and called for their two countries to further strengthen their dialogue and cooperation in every area with the potential for synergies, particularly in the environmental field, where Monaco and Italy are already collaborating closely through Monegasque initiatives to preserve the Mediterranean marine environment. The Italian President hailed the Sovereign Prince’s steadfast commitment to international environmental action as being of global importance, for tackling one of the biggest challenges facing humanity in the 21st century.
