Monaco takes part in Journées de la Francophonie in Italy
On 22 March, Monaco’s Embassy in Italy participated in the round table organised in Rome to mark the end of the Journées de la Francophonie celebration of French language on the theme “Franco + Sport for Peace”.
To mark the Rio 2016 Olympic Games (5–21 August) and Paralympic Games (7–18 September), the Group of Francophone Ambassadors in Rome opted to draw inspiration from the ethical values of sport, which are fully in line with those of La Francophonie.
Speakers from various member states of the International Organisation of La Francophonie (53 members and 23 observer states) expressed their view on “Sport for Peace in La Francophonie, thoughts and shared experiences”. Mr Laurent Dupont, Director of Peace and Sport, a global initiative placed under the high patronage of H.S.H. Prince Albert II, presented the organisation’s work with children and some of the projects implemented in Colombia, Haiti, and Rwanda, in the Great Lakes region.
At the end of the session, as part of the #whitecard viral campaign supported by Champions for Peace and numerous personalities on Peace and Sport’s @Facebook , @Twitter and Instagram pages, each person waved a white card to celebrate 6 April, the day proclaimed by the United Nations General Assembly in 2013 as the International Day of Sport for Development and Peace (the resolution was sponsored by the Principality).
