Establishment of Diplomatic Relations between the Principality of Monaco and Hungary
The Principality of Monaco and Hungary established diplomatic relations on 2 May 2016 with the signature of a Joint Communiqué.
This document was signed by H.E. Mr. Claude Cottalorda, Ambassador of Monaco to France, and H.E. Mr. Georges Kàrolyi, Ambassador of Hungary to France, at the Hungarian Chancellery in Paris.
Following the ceremony, the two Ambassadors discussed various topics. H.E. Mr. Cottalorda explained the principles of the Monegasque hereditary and constitutional monarchy to the Hungarian Ambassador, as well as, in particular, the distribution of legislative power, which is exercised jointly by H.S.H. the Sovereign Prince and the National Council.
For his part, H.E. Mr. Kàrolyi explained the Hungarian parliamentary system and the specificities of the Prime Minister's powers. He also emphasised the interest his country takes in European affairs, which are under the direct authority of the Prime Minister.
H.E. Mr. Kàrolyi expressed the wish to become the first Hungarian Ambassador accredited in the Principality of Monaco.
The Republic of Hungary is the 130th State to establish diplomatic relations with Monaco.
