AVIP - An Association to Help Victims of Violence

Today, the Minister of State and members of the Government visited the premises of the Association for Assistance to Victims of Crime (AVIP).

This association, which was founded in 2014 following the promulgation of Act No. 1.382 of 20 July 2011 on the prevention and repression of specific types of violence, aims to help victims of violence, whether this violence is marital, psychological, sexual or of another type.

Thanks to the support of the Prince's Government, AVIP has the means to help support victims. It can guide them through the initial administrative and legal procedures, inform them of their rights and ways to assert them, help them psychologically and, on a practical level, be present when they file a complaint and attend criminal hearings.

Two people are designated to victims of crime. Victims can be received in a reception area that respects their confidentiality. Various therapists – a doctor specialising in sophrology, an art therapist, a psychotherapist and a psychologist - are available to listen to them and offer support.

In 2019, 64 victims of crime were assisted, 33 of whom were victims of domestic violence. Thirty-seven people are being followed up by health professionals from the association; nine victims from 2018 must also be added.
