“Pink October”: a month dedicated to preventing and fighting breast cancer

Octobre Rose

The Ministry of Health and Social Affairs has been supporting and taking part in the Pink October breast cancer prevention and control campaign since the beginning of the month.

The Prince’s Government has introduced a breast cancer screening campaign aimed, as a priority, at all women aged between 50 and 80 years old who belong to a Monegasque social security fund. A partnership has been forged with the Monaco Screening Centre in collaboration with the breast care service at Princess Grace Hospital, which has some of the most advanced equipment available. The other local imaging facilities are also taking part in the campaign. To ensure its success, the Prince’s Government, in conjunction with the Principality’s social security funds, is covering all costs associated with the screenings. No medical prescription is required.

Early screening of breast cancer in women, before any symptoms appear, is the best way to improve prognosis which, under these conditions, according to current data, is favourable after five years in 99% of cases.

This is why a number of actions aimed at promoting breast cancer screening will be introduced during October in partnership with the Princess Grace Hospital and Pink Ribbon Monaco.
