Celebration of Saint Barbara
The traditional Mass of Saint Barbara, Patron Saint of Firefighters, presided by
Mgr Dominique-Marie David, archbishop of Monaco, was celebrated on Monday 4 December, in the presence of H.E. Mr Pierre Dartout, Minister of State and Mrs Yvette Lambin-Berti, Secretary of State.
In his homily, Father Venard, Chaplain to the Military Forces, recalled the legend of Saint Barbara, then the Archbishop thanked the firefighters for their work and their dedication.
Lieutenant-Colonel Maxime YVRARD, Chief Officer of the Monaco Fire and Emergency Service, recalled in his speech the key moments marking the year of 2023 (operational activity, memorable operations, support roles provided, etc.) while not forgetting how much the profession of Firefighter has become highly technical and that this necessarily involves considerable evolution. He said that for this reason a firm of consultants has been carrying out a performance audit for over a year in order to have a better understanding of the staffing and structure of the Service. This audit should produce a development plan for the next decade to respond to new issues of civil security and guarantee the quality of services for the population.
