On 19 October 2022, H.E. Mr Lorenzo Ravano, the Principality of Monaco’s Permanent Representative to the Organisation for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE), presented his credentials to the Organisation’s Secretary-General, Ms Helga Schmid, in Vienna.

The ceremony was followed by a meeting, during which the situation in Ukraine and the recent escalation of the conflict, as well as the resurgence of crises and renewed tensions in several OSCE regions were discussed.

Ms Schmid was also keen to thank the Principality for its support for the OSCE, particularly on the programme to combat human trafficking.

H.E. Mr Lorenzo Ravano welcomed the Secretary-General’s tireless work in seeking consensus solutions given the diverging political stances adopted by some Participating States. He also confirmed the Principality’s unwavering support for the actions carried out by the OSCE, particularly in the human dimension, and the importance which H.S.H. Prince Albert II attaches to multilateralism, a vital element in resolving cross-border crises.

* With 57 member states, the OSCE is the world’s largest regional security organisation. It works to promote peace and stability, including by deploying missions on the ground and through practical action in three areas, known as “dimensions”: politico-military (disarmament, counter-terrorism, conflict prevention, police training, etc.); economic and environmental (development of institutional capacity, the impact of conflict on the environment, etc.); and human (human rights, democracy, election monitoring, combatting human trafficking, media freedom, etc.).
