F(ê)aites de la Danse: 10 days to go! They’ll get you dancing
Jointly organised by the Prince’s Government, Monte-Carlo Société des Bains de Mer and the Ballets de Monte-Carlo, F(ê)aites de la Danse will transform Place du Casino for one night into a vast dance floor where professionals and amateurs will mingle to the beat of a wide variety of musical genres.
Among the performers, some will get participants dancing, like Antonio Castrignanò, an Italian composer and advocate for traditional music from the Apulia region dedicated to the Pizzica dance, Salento’s tarantella. The intoxicating rhythms of his music will lead the audience in a giant flash mob. A simple choreography, which anyone can follow, is available online via the Ballets de Monte-Carlo website so that everybody can learn it.
Hip-hop fans will have an opportunity to breakdance with the Pockemon Crew, which is currently the world’s most successful crew in dance battles.
The Yamakasi PK Street Jump Dancers will present a demonstration of parkour, an impressive acrobatic discipline which involves jumping over a variety of urban objects, without the aid of equipment, while running and climbing. Feel free to copy them!
Roller skating will also feature, courtesy of Montreal’s Le Patin Libre, who will combine this contemporary discipline with figure skating on Place du Casino.
Marion Crampe will be teaching pole dancing in the Casino Atrium. Described as the “Pole Fairy”, Marion has developed a style which blends dance, contortion and emotion in a highly personal way.
For those who want to dance, dream, listen, sing and meet other people, Les P’tites Ouvreuses will alternate between traditional musette numbers and poetic songs to dance to at the Guinguette Chic Ball concert. For the more nostalgic, LesFleurs de Paris will invite the audience on a journey through popular French song from the 1920s to the present day. Alessandro Ristori & The Portofinos will be offering a different and original style of music, mixing American rock’n’roll from the 1950s, the sound of 1960s in Italy, and the characteristic elegance of the crooner.
F(ê)aites de la Danse: Saturday 1 July, Place du Casino, free and open to all
