Childhood cancer: the Government of Monaco helps to fund the Mependax clinical trial
Christophe ROBINO, Minister of Health and Social Affairs, signs an agreement with the MEPENDAX clinical trial for the treatment of central nervous system tumours in children.
The Government of Monaco has agreed to support Professor Nicolas André, a paediatric oncologist at La Timone Hospital, in his request for funding for the Mependax clinical trial.
This clinical trial, coordinated by Professor Nicolas André, will explore new avenues in the treatment of paediatric brain cancer by studying the use of Axitinib in around thirty children with brain cancer who have reached a therapeutic impasse with conventional treatments.
At a meeting held in Marseille on Monday, 9th October 2023, attended by Mr Adrien Baron, Director of the Hôpital de la Timone and Mr Denis Maccario, Chairman of the Flavien Foundation, an agreement was signed formalising the collaboration between the Government of Monaco and the Assistance Publique des Hôpitaux de Marseille (AP-HM), resulting in the payment of 200,000 euros to help fund this clinical trial.
Mr Christophe Robino, Minister of Health and Social Affairs, stressed that "We still need to think about how we can better understand and meet the needs of children affected by cancer, as well as those of their families and carers".
