Monaco attends the 34th ICCROM General Assembly
The 34th session of the General Assembly of the International Centre for the Study of the Preservation and Restoration of Cultural Property (ICCROM) was held in Rome from 10 to 12 December. The Principality of Monaco was represented at the event by its Embassy in Italy.
In her address to delegates, H.E. Ms Anne Eastwood, Ambassador and Permanent Representative of Monaco to the international bodies based in Rome, spoke about the importance of ICCROM, underlining the intergovernmental organisation’s vital role as a globally recognised centre of excellence in the field of cultural heritage conservation, thanks to the technical expertise of its members.
She also referenced Monaco’s long-standing cooperation with ICCROM and announced that the Prince’s Government will increase its support for the organisation’s programmes in 2026. In addition to its continued backing for efforts to safeguard cultural heritage in Ukraine, Monaco will throw its weight behind a new initiative aimed at empowering local cultural heritage actors in developing small island states.
The session also dealt with ICCROM’s finances and governance, and formally tasked the ICCROM Council with modernising the organisation’s basic texts.
In keeping with the spirit of UNESCO’s 2001 Universal Declaration on Cultural Diversity, ICCROM aims to provide its 139 member states with the tools, knowledge, and skills they need to protect cultural heritage in all its forms.
