Pigeon control loft being installed in Bassin de Fontvieille gardens

As part of its policy to promote environmentally friendly urban development, the Principality of Monaco is installing a pigeon control loft in the Bassin de Fontvieille gardens. The loft, which is designed to manage the pigeon population in an ethical way, is set to be up and running by the end of 2025.

An approach based on prevention, care and ecological balance

The pigeon control loft is being installed in a location selected for its urban and environmental compatibility, and is intended to reduce breeding by replacing laid eggs with fake eggs. This is a simple, eco-friendly method that offers a way to take action without harming any birds. It also helps to establish colonies in a chosen location, thereby reducing the problems that result from birds being dispersed across unsuitable areas. Finally, it means that the health of the animals can be monitored on a regular basis and appropriate care provided, under the supervision of the contractor responsible for managing the loft. This eco-friendly approach to pigeon control is modelled on best practices that have been implemented in a number of European cities.

On-site informational support

Information panels will be erected in the immediate vicinity of the pigeon loft to educate the public about how it works and reiterate the importance of not feeding pigeons in public areas.
