Launch of 7th EWWR in Principality
On Monday 24 November, a conference presenting the European Week for Waste Reduction (EWWR) kicked off the event for the seventh year in Monaco.
At a round table organised by the Department of the Environment and led by the Government Communication Department, project leaders representing Monegasque institutions, associations and businesses presented the awareness-raising activities and waste collection initiatives that they are running during this week-long, Europe-wide event.
The theme for EWWR in 2025 is Waste from Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE), but any activity that contributes to the 3Rs – Reduce, Reuse and Recycle waste – can be registered as part of EWWR.
Significant figures
The European Commission was keen to raise public awareness about WEEE, as it accounts for 62 million tonnes of waste worldwide, and each European generates 17.6 kilos of such waste every year. While 22.3% of the WEEE produced annually is officially collected and recycled, there has been an 82% increase in such waste since 2010, and a further 32% increase is expected by 2030 (compared with 2022).
Find out what’s going on!
In partnership with the Digital Transition Office, the Department of the Environment is developing a website to bring together all of the activities open to the public via the Your Monaco app (Monaco Informs Me tab). If you would like to see everything that is being done during EWWR, including internal activities within businesses committed to reducing waste, you can check out the Government Communication Department press kit available on the Prince’s Government website.
