On 17 March, H.E. Ms Anne Eastwood, Monaco’s Ambassador to Italy, met deputies and senators from the new Italy-Monaco friendship group recently established within the Italian parliament.

Currently bringing together 34 members of parliament, this cross-party group has given itself a mandate to strengthen bilateral dialogue with Monaco and ensure that progress is made on issues of shared interest.

The Ambassador was welcomed to the Senate by Mr Gianni Berrino, Senator for San Remo and President of the friendship group. She first visited the history-steeped halls of the Palazzo Madama before being received by the members of parliament in the auditorium of the Senate’s 3rd Standing Committee (Foreign Affairs and Defence), where they were joined by the Mayor of Dolceacqua, Mr Fulvio Gazzola, who was also invited to attend in his capacity as President of the Historical Sites of the Grimaldis in Italy Association.

After a reminder of the very close historical, cultural and economic ties that bind Monaco and Italy, the discussions focused on the projects and early initiatives of the friendship group to bolster relations between Italy and Monaco. These included the announcement that the legislative process relating to the ratification of the teleworking agreement signed in May 2021 between the Principality of Monaco and the Italian Republic has been relaunched. This should be achieved in the coming months, enabling several hundred additional jobs to be created for cross-border workers.
