Prince Pierre of Monaco Foundation - Press Release No. 3 - International Contemporary Art Prize

On Tuesday 15 October, in Monaco, the Prince Pierre of Monaco Foundation will announce the winner of the 47th International Contemporary Art Prize (PIAC).

From 1 to 10 November 2019, the winning work will be exhibited at the Palazzo Madama in Turin, on the occasion of the Artissima International Contemporary Art Fair.

As a reminder, three works have been selected for the 2019 PIAC:

  • Tree Identification for Beginners (2017) by Yto Barrada, a work proposed by Adrienne Edwards
  • Love Is the Message, The Message Is Death (2016) by Arthur Jafa, a work proposed by Tumelo Mosaka
  • FRAGMENTS (2016-present) by Rayyane Tabet, a work proposed by Lorenzo Giusti

The PIAC - International Contemporary Art Prize was first awarded in 1965, and has been organised since 1983 by the Prince Pierre of Monaco Foundation.

Since 2005, it has been awarded every three years by the Artistic Council, after consultation with international experts in the art world.

The PIAC is endowed with the sum of EUR 75,000, which includes financing the production of an original work.

The Prize for a Critical Essay on Contemporary Art

Since 2015, the Foundation has awarded this prize annually to an individual or collective: 

to writers, theorists, academics or practitioners who use writing as their main medium or as a study strategy to undertake innovative, original research.
