27th European Heritage Days - Sunday 25 September 2022

This year sees the 27th edition of the European Heritage Days, on the theme of “Sustainable Heritage”.

Sustainable by nature, heritage is the inheritance passed down to us and which benefits us today thanks to the commitment of an entire community. It comes to us because it has been restored and preserved by previous generations. The theme of this year’s events serves as a reminder that protecting our cultural, intangible, and natural heritage is something all can contribute to, from the highest institutions in the land, to enthusiastic members of grassroots associations.

This 2022 edition is a chance to meet heritage stakeholders through visits to around forty sites, as well as a contemporary art trail.

On Saturday 24 September, the public will be invited to follow two cross-border itineraries (subject to reservation).

The Principality took part in the European Heritage Days for the first time in 1996. Created by the Council of Europe, the Heritage Days are currently celebrated by over 50 European countries and signatories of the European Cultural Convention. Around 70,000 events are organised for the occasion all over Europe, with some 30 million visitors expected.

In Monaco, events to mark the European Heritage Days have been organised since 2018 by the Heritage Institute, under the aegis of the Department of Cultural Affairs.
