COVID-19 : Fifth meeting of Joint Monitoring Committee

A fifth meeting of the Joint COVID-19 Monitoring Committee was held on Friday 24 April at the Ministry of State Building.

The Prince’s Government discussed with members of the National Council the decisions that have been taken and are still to be taken in view of the health crisis and the resulting social and economic impact.

Their discussions covered the health situation and the supply of medical equipment in the Principality. An update was provided on the distribution of masks to residents and the arrangements, which have been made to supply masks for employees in the Principality.

The members of the Government and National Council representatives also exchanged views on future phases in the management of the health crisis: the gradual lifting of the lockdown.

The Prince’s Government is currently stepping up consultations with various stakeholders in the Principality to consider the most effective and pragmatic way of gradually easing the lockdown measures. The objective is twofold: to ensure that the spread of the virus remains in check while restarting our economy.

In consultation with the National Council, the members of the Joint Monitoring Committee agreed to continue their work on these issues until an official communication can be produced.

The Principality’s economy and budget were also discussed, following the National Council’s unanimous vote last Tuesday to approve the amended budget, which registered a deficit of €477.3 million.

The Government and National Council expressed once again their joint determination to work hand in hand, so that, both from an economic and a financial point of view, every endeavour is undertaken to ensure that no one is left behind.

The next meeting of the Joint Committee will be held on Thursday 30 April.
