A partnership to develop innovative solutions in the fields of driverless vehicles, energy efficiency and eco-city design was signed on Friday 9 November, in the presence of H.S.H. the Sovereign Prince, by H.E. Mr Bernard Fautrier, Minister Plenipotentiary and Vice President and CEO of the Prince Albert II Foundation, Mr Frédéric Genta, Country Chief Digital Officer, and Professor Subodh Mhaisalkar, Associate Vice President (Strategy and Partnerships) and Executive Director of the Energy Research Institute at NTU.

This trilateral agreement seeks to offer a response to the challenges of urban sustainability both in Singapore and in Monaco, by supporting the Principality’s ambitious target for reducing its greenhouse gas emissions and achieving carbon neutrality by 2050.

During the visit to Singapore, H.S.H. the Sovereign Prince and the Monegasque delegation toured the university campus and attended demonstrations of driverless vehicles at the CETRAN test centre, led by NTU scientists.

This partnership will offer a research platform for studying the use of driverless vehicles in dense urban traffic and, more broadly, solutions for low-energy buildings, eco-friendly campuses, and the design and implementation of sustainable cities. All are priorities for the Prince Albert II Foundation, which is active in efforts to combat climate change through its support for numerous clean and renewable energy projects.

The agreement is based on synergy between interests and activities, and will strengthen the bilateral links between Monaco and Singapore, allowing the two countries to develop and promote the use of driverless vehicles in similar environments. This will produce improvements in mobility: a key plank of the Principality’s digital transition.
