New teaching sites identified for upper-secondary students
Following the announcement that upper-secondary students will not be able to return to the building of the former Collège Charles III due to the encroachment of works required to reinforce the retaining wall, the Government reiterates that the resumption of classes will take place via remote learning on 5 January at 2.00 p.m.
With a view to resuming in-person teaching as swiftly as possible, new temporary teaching sites have already been identified and will be made available once the necessary fit-out works have been completed.
Accordingly, a consolidated school environment centred around Promenade Honoré II has been defined, through the use of classrooms made available at Collège Charles III and Lycée Rainier III, as well as the construction of temporary modular buildings providing 22 additional classrooms at Îlot Pasteur.
Furthermore, in order to free up teaching capacity for these upper-secondary students at Lycée Rainier III, higher-education courses will be temporarily relocated to classrooms vacated by ISM in the “Ruscino” building, located on Quai Antoine Ier. These premises will also host essential non-teaching facilities for upper-secondary students, including guidance counsellors, psychologists, a social worker, the library and parent reception areas.
The date on which all classes will resume on these sites will be communicated shortly. It is specified, however, that from the week of 5 January, a number of physical education and sports classes will already take place in person, under arrangements that will be communicated to students and their parents by the Department of Education, Youth and Sports.
