A new guide to leave-sharing in the private sector
The Prince’s Government has released a new guide explaining how private-sector employees can donate their allotted days of leave to their co-workers. The guide, put together by the Department of Health and Social Affairs in collaboration with the Department of Employment, helps readers understand how leave-sharing works, and how to apply it in practice.
It clearly sets out the rules for the three different groups of people concerned:
- employees who receive days of leave from a co-worker:
- employees who want to donate their leave to co-workers;
- employers, who are responsible for approving and managing leave-sharing requests at their organisations.
The guide has been distributed to social partners, who will pass it on to businesses and workers in the private sector. The aim is to provide a clear framework, ensuring that as many employees and employers as possible are familiar with exactly how leave-sharing works in practice.
Any questions about leave-sharing should be directed to the Labour Inspectorate (tel: +377 98 98 87 26), which is responsible for enforcing private sector employment laws and regulations and providing information for employers and workers.
